For my second-year capstone project for my scholar's program, I decided to do a creative project and construct an outdoor bar at my house.
Tools Used: Adobe Sketchbook, SolidWorks, WoodWorking Tools/Machinery
Duration: One month
First came the location planning and layout of the base of the bar
Next, was the creation of these wooden frames and base layout followed by a series of wooden planks on the front and sides inspired by other wooden pallet bars. The frames were made of 2x4's, the base 4x4's, the front paneling 1x4's, and the bar top was made of various sized plywood. It was approaching the point that the wood was ready to be stained as well
Along with finishing up the bar top the process of putting trim on it had now begun as well
Next came the chance to touch up things on the interior and sides of the bar as well as to add some shelving to the shorter length interior side
Since this was a project I had worked on with my father a bit, I wanted to add a personal touch to it. This led to the iteration phase of how I wanted to put cards onto the bar top
The randomly scattered iteration looked best as seen in the first picture below. Now the cards were to be treated all while the bar top was getting a base coat of epoxy resin, then after everything had set the cards were glued don't the table and covered with multiple layers of the same material to encase it into the bar top
After a waiting a period of time everything was finished and chairs were added to enhance the experience, below you can see the final product
